ACCESS-3DP is a transnational project funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

The project aims at taking Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) as a new, disruptive technology under the umbrella of Advanced Manufacturing in order to set out frameworks to train and upskill workers in the craft and creative industries.

It is implemented by 5 different organisations in France, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.

Tips for using 3D Printing

3D printing has been a revolution in many fields and sectors, bringing about
a change in the way of production, thanks to the new possibilities and
techniques that appeared thanks to the concept of “layered”
manufacturing. Here are some tips on how to optimise the use of 3D
printing and take advantage of the many benefits of this technology.

1. Focus on design. Designing a part or object for normal manufacturing is not the same as designing it for 3D printing. You must learn to take full advantage of the capabilities of 3D printing and this starts with knowing how to correctly design all the details of a sample.

2. If you are not able to design, for various reasons, take advantage of files that have already been made. Luckily for you, there are literally millions of free files waiting for you to download. The most popular file repositories are Thingiverse, Thangs and Cults, all of which allow you to download STL files for free. 

3. Always check tolerances, thicknesses and part spacing to avoid breakages or other issues during printing (trying not to waste time or materials).

4. Take care of the storage of the filaments. It is very important to store the filament spools to keep them moist and prevent dust from getting on them. If our spool absorbs moisture or dust, it will have a negative impact on our print quality and also clog the nozzles.

5. Prepare the printing surface. One of the most important things before 3D printing is to thoroughly clean the heated print waste bed. Adjust the level of the 3D printer bed correctly. If there is no good levelling, our printing results will not be effective and will eventually frustrate the machine. When calibrating the base we should keep in mind that the best distance between the nozzle and the base is 0.1 mm.
